The placenta is an entire organ, built from scratch right along with a baby, that nourishes and protects the delicate fetus. In humans, this incredible organ is largely cast aside as waste after birth, yet it contains vital hormones and nutrients that can aid the birthing person in postpartum recovery. Indeed, it’s incredible and convenient that the very thing that can nourish your body postpartum is delivered right after your baby!
Placenta encapsulation makes it easy to take advantage of the potential benefits of consuming your placenta throughout the postpartum period by transforming it into easy-to-take capsules you can ingest as you see fit.
Some of the benefits women often report from their capsules:
- Helps prevent postpartum depression
- Improves breast milk supply
- Boosts postpartum energy levels
- Shrinks the uterus
- May prevent postpartum hemorrhage and decrease postpartum bleeding
- May prevent iron deficiency anemia
Three Easy Steps to Placenta Encapsulation
Step One
Prior to birth, prepare a temperature safe container.
Have a cooler or other suitable container ready for hospital staff to place your placenta in for pickup.
Step Two
Upon arrival, notify hospital staff of your intentions.
Inform hospital staff of your plan to have your placenta released for encapsulation; this is you or your support person’s responsibility. Staff should place placenta in refrigerated storage or on ice in your cooler.
Step Three
Let me know As soon as possible that you have birthed.
Notify me as soon after the birth as possible to request pick-up of the placenta(s) at the location previously agreed upon. Me or a representative will then pickup within 2 hours of contact.
Note: Failure notify me in a timely manner may reduce or eliminate the efficacy of your placenta.
